Why test ride a motorcycle

Mike Hopkins Motorcycles: Why test ride a motorcycle

Motorcycles have been gaining more popularity nowadays. After all, they have a lot of versatility in terms of design and performance. From the small scooters that can be used in tight spaces to large bikes that are great for travelling long distances, it’s no wonder people are getting more into buying motorcycles.

Before you go and buy your new bike though, whether this is your first time or just upgrading it, it’s always best to do a test ride. You can inspect it all you want but there are things that you’ll only notice when you ride the bike.

Here are a few reasons why you should test ride a motorcycle:

Check the engine performance

One of the most important parts of choosing a motorcycle or any vehicle for that matter is how well they perform. You need to check how much power and torque it makes. Make sure to check how the engine delivers the power. It should be smooth that when you twist the throttle, there won’t be any delays or hiccups.

Similarly, you also need to check the transmission if you’re going for a motorbike with one. It’s one of the things people barely noticed since they’re used to the quick shifters available in most bikes.

Not all new bikes have that technology and of course, old ones don’t either so it’s best to make sure that you easily change gears on your bike for it to deliver top performance.

Ride quality

Ride quality is one of the things that you can check the performance of while riding it. What you’re looking for here is comfort in both your posture and the placement of your hands and feet. If you’re not too comfortable with where your hands and feet are placed, there are ways to change them with a few modifications.

This is also a great time to try how the handling is of your potential bike. You check how firm the suspension is which also contributes to how the bike handles turns.

Check the brakes

Motorbikes can go up to great speeds and it can be dangerous if you ride them too fast. That’s why it’s important to know that you have brakes that you can rely on. Take a look if the brakes lever is easy to reach. If it’s not, check if it’s adjustable.

This is also a great way to check how well or fast your brakes will bite. Some bikes take a bit longer before stopping while others stop abruptly. You’ll need to learn the right timing when to pull that brake to make a full stop. It helps to test it out in a non-threatening situation rather than find out about it on the spot.

All in all, drive testing a motorcycle will give you the option to test it out and see how well it performs as it is intended. If it’s a sport’s bike, it should perform like one and not like a cruiser.
